The capital city of Arkansas, Little Rock is home to over 196,000 people. The Natural State’s most populous city sits on the banks of the Arkansas River in Pulaski County. Originally known as Cadron Settlement, it was renamed Little Rock in 1822 for a rock discovered near the original site around 1723 by French explorers.

Most of the city’s major employers are in either the government or education industries, including its largest employer University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Other notable Little Rock companies include Acxiom Corporation and Dassault Falcon Jet.

Pulaski County’s most popular tourist attractions include the Little Rock Zoo, the Museum of Discovery, and Riverfront Park. The city is also home to the state capitol building which offers daily tours thanks to its being one of America’s only Capitol Buildings open to the public.
